THE REAL
Honestly...
I never considered going into politics, let alone becoming a successful politician.
I never studied journalism, so I never thought I'd be a national award-winning journalist who has served as the Editor of a newspaper and regularly appears on national radio and TV shows.
I never thought about having a family or raising kids.
I never thought God would allow me to use my voice to travel all over the world and across this country being a person of influence and making an impact.
I never saw myself being the person I am today or the person I am becoming.
THE RAW
Growing Up...
Many times I thought I'd be six-feet under or locked up in jail like so many of my homies from the neighborhood.
I had a loving mother and father, and although they tried their best to shelter me and protect me from the negative influences of the street life, I was heavily swayed by those things I thought were important.
I knew there had to be a purpose for living, but I didn't know what that purpose was.
I almost died drinking in college and got in to serious trouble, before my eyes were opened to my purpose.
It took words of encouragement from an unlikely source, saying, “Jeff you don’t belong in these streets. God will use your voice to change the world,” that helped push me in the right direction.
THE RELEVANT
Words matter. Words from the people around you matter. Words of encouragement. Words of betrayal. Words matter. Don’t let anyone ever tell you different.
Every day, I understand that my words matter.
The power of the pen is built around words. Trust me when I say....your words matter.
Because I know the power of words, I want to be a vessel to share some important words to your youth groups, conferences, businesses, community and professional organizations, galas, luncheons and community events. But I don’t want to just stop there. I want to speak to every young person or adult who needs to listen - that means every adult organization, teacher symposium or women/men conference.
The most relevant moment and experiences in our lives are built around words.

I have traveled globally and all over this country. I have been in a million meetings. I have met numerous people. I have spoken to large and small groups. I am a husband, a father, a friend. I am a former financial executive. I am an entrepreneur. I am a politician. I am a media professional. I am an advocate for my community. I have led several non-profits. I have been honored. I have been wronged. I have seen the injustices in and out of our communities. In the midst of it all, I continue to use my voice to make a difference and impact the lives of others. The best is yet to come.
